The One Tool Every Writer Needs To Crush It On Instagram

My Instagram feed looks fantastic.

I’m not bragging here. I’m just stating facts. (Scroll to the bottom of this page if you want to see for yourself.)

And it looks great not because I know how to design things. I very definitely do not.

In fact, one reason I was reluctant to even open a business account on Instagram was specifically because I’m not a designer.

I’m a writer, a word person. I know what looks great but I’m not a sorceress who understands how to make both snappy copy AND beautiful designs.

When I first opened my business account in late 2019, we were at the tail end of that first Instagram era when a beautifully composed stock photo – maybe a flat lay of your desk, glasses and pencils arranged just so – could still garner some likes here and there.

But by that time, IG was also growing ridiculously. Almost 2 billion accounts and all of them following the same formula.

I had to figure out how to stop the scroll.

I knew I had good ideas for posts. I would write out solid, sparkly, persuasive copy…and then throw it in a folder and forget about it. I’d forget about it because I couldn’t figure out how to create images that would make people stop scrolling and actually read my ideas.

So when I heard my friend Manu at Your Social Team was launching a Canva template subscription, I was intrigued. The day it dropped, I literally refreshed the screen like I was buying tickets to see Beyoncé.

And let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. I really hate tired lingo like “game changer” but, um, this is a game changer.

Because more than just stopping the scroll, they actually delivered discovery calls and DMs about my services.

(DM me and I’ll share screenshots of my insights!)

If you:

✨Want to get more engagement on Instagram

✨Need fresh ideas for your account to get people to read your words

✨Want to be able to quickly understand new features like Reels or other upcoming trends

✨Want to spend less time creating content so you can focus on other things

…then Your Template Club is for you.

Here’s what you get:

When you subscribe to Your Template Club, you get 2 sets of completely customizable Canva templates per month, sent via email on the first and third Monday of each month.

A “set” includes a minimum of 20 templates (which can be customized to create an infinite number of posts or stories). Each set also includes a video tutorial with Manu’s pro tips on how to customize the templates.

And you can cancel your subscription at any time. No questions asked.

Here’s how you can customize the designs:

If you’re new to using Canva templates, everything you need to know is in this video. It’s 12 minutes long but Manu answers all the most common questions people have about how to use these little engagement miracles.

Here’s an example. If you want to share something “wordy” like a testimonial, it doesn’t need to be a boring screenshot. Make it a scroll-stopper in about 2 minutes by using a template.

In the template above, you would change the background colors, change out the gif (or not!) and drop your own screenshot in the square.

The possibilities really are endless.

TL;DR:

Seriously level up your Instagram. Get 2 sets of 20 templates every month from Your Template Club. Spend less time creating content, never run out of ideas for what to post and keep up with the latest trends for a really reasonable monthly fee.

If you’re not sure you want to subscribe, you can just buy an individual set. I’m pretty sure you’ll find one you want to try.

P.S. This post contains affiliate links so I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link at no cost to you.
